Leonard received his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1991 from Brigham Young University, and his law degree from Gonzaga University in 1994. Leonard is a member of the Alaska and Anchorage Bar Associations and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the State of Alaska, the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Tax Court. Leonard is a past president and current member of the Board of Directors for the Anchorage Bar Association. He is a member of the Probate Rules Committee for the State of Alaska and a member of the Estate Planning, Probate and Elder Law Sections of the Alaska Bar Association. Leonard has frequently spoken at seminars and to private groups about estate planning and the probate process. He is also a member of the national Special Needs Alliance.

Leonard is married to his wife, Lale, and they have eight children, all of whom were raised in Alaska. Leonard was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Alaska after meeting his wife in college and getting hooked on the long summer days and salmon fishing.
