James Nolan represents clients in civil litigation and insurance-related matters throughout Alaska. His practice includes defending personal injury, medical malpractice, employment, environmental, wrongful death, bad faith, and insurance coverage disputes. He also advises insurers and policyholders on coverage issues, bringing practical litigation experience to complex claims and pre-litigation matters.

Before joining Barlow Anderson, James developed broad experience in civil defense litigation, handling matters at various stages of dispute resolution. His work reflects a careful, practical approach to advocacy and client counseling.

James earned his undergraduate degree in music from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006, where he graduated with Distinction in General Scholarship and Departmental Honors. He received his law degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, formerly UC Hastings, in 2012. During law school, he was a Senior Article Editor for the Communications and Entertainment Law Journal and a member of the Intercollegiate Trial Team.

In his free time, he is a musician and a fair-weather rock climber.

James is admitted to practice in both Alaska and California and serves clients throughout Alaska.
